Microsoft and the Open Data Institute are proud to announce an Education Open Data Challenge to better understand the relationship of broadband penetration and education.
This webinar run by Microsoft, will cover an introduction to the datasets opened for the challenge by BroadbandNow and Microsoft, a preview of additional external open datasets sourced for challenge participants, and some guidance for using them, as well as an introduction to Microsoft’s Airband initiative. This webinar will also include a Q&A with all of the speakers.

Tara joined the ODI in September 2018 to work on OpenActive – the community-led initiative to help people in England get active using open data. Her role is to lead on the initiative’s engagement strategy, building an empowered community of data publishers and users in the physical activity sector.
Before joining the ODI, Tara spent 4.5 years as a Senior Consultant for Upshot, a performance management software solution designed to help organisations delivering and funding community based projects, manage, monitor and evidence their work, and prove their impact.
Tara has a BSc in Sociology from the London School of Economics, with a focus on gender in society. Tara loves literature and animals and plans to incorporate these into her work. With her goal of developing a lunchtime crossword club complete, her sights are now set on convincing senior management of the benefits of an office dog.

Fatema Kothari is the Senior Program Manager for Microsoft’s Airband Initiative within the Technology & Corporate Responsibility organization. With 10+ years in large-scale program execution, strategic management, and engineering, Fatema leads Airband’s global operations to expand internet connectivity to unserved rural communities in over 20 countries. As an advisor on digital empowerment, Fatema has also contributed her expertise to the Federal Communications Commission.
Fatema is an avid advocate for gender parity in technology. She served on the board for the global non-profit Girls in Tech SF for three years and currently, is an advisor to leading women entrepreneurs from Africa through the TechWomen program run by the U.S. Department of State.
An engineer by education, Fatema holds a Master’s degree in Telecommunications from the University of Maryland, College Park. Outside of work, Fatema spends her time experimenting with DIY craft projects and plotting exhaustive maps of her future travels.

John Busby is the Managing Director of BroadbandNow, the most comprehensive guide for internet service provider plans, pricing and coverage. Prior to joining BroadbandNow, John was Head of Analytics for Amazon’s grocery delivery service and responsible for business intelligence, data science and automated reporting. Prior to Amazon, John was Senior Vice President of Analytics and Marketing at Marchex.
John began his career in product management for InfoSpace, Go2net and IQ Chart. He holds a Bachelor of Science from Northwestern University.
